Thankful…

You’ll never know how it feels, unless you start.
You’ll never do the impossible, unless you finish.

Hey blogosphere! Today was a day to be thankful. I am thankful for so many things. A wonderful family, great friends, a roof over my head, the ability to run and so much more. However, I am incredibly thankful for my husband. Yeah… I am going to talk about him again. I can’t help it. He is my partner in life and tomorrow we will celebrate 10 years of marital bliss. It’s super cool when you can go through life’s ups and downs with your best friend by your side.

Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.

When it comes to my fitness goals… he is always there for me!  He watches my son while I go for runs.  He even ran a race or two with me this year.  I love seeing that silly grin he gets on his face when he finishes his race.  My lovebug joined me in a 4 week boot camp class this fall.  That was HILARIOUS!!  Couples that do burpees together… stay together… just sayin’.  He means the world to me and I am so thankful that God brought us together.

Moving Music Mondays ~ Your Love Is My Drug… by Ke$ha

"The tortoise and the hare both finished the race."
~ Unknown
This week’s song is dedicated to my husband.  Hello world… I am a Ke$ha fan!  There… I said it.  I am not ashamed.  LOL!  Her songs are great to run to and she always finds a way to rhyme words with glitter.  You got to give the girl credit for that.  Seriously, how many words rhythm with glitter?

Anyway… the song is “Your Love Is My Drug”.  My hubby and I will be celebrating 10 years of marriage later this week.  I can honestly say that he is my best friend and my biggest supporter when it comes to my fitness goals.  So when this song comes on I can’t help but think of my Honey Bunny.

So today… ladies and gentlemen…
I am happy to report that my husband’s love IS my drug!
He makes my heart beat like an 808 drum. J Enjoy!

Until next time… Happy (love drug) Running!

Running Like A “Girl On Fire”…

“Happy Hunger Games! And may the odds be ever in your favor.”
~ Effie Trinket/Suzanne Collins, The Hunger Games
I am a big fan of the Hunger Games books.  With “Catching Fire” premiering this weekend… I have decided to dedicate this post to all of the loyal HG fanatics out there.  The main character, Katniss, is one bad mother… shut your mouth.  Her focus, drive and determination were the attributes that kept her going throughout all of her trials and tribulations.  Maybe that’s what attracted me to the books.  Or was it the Gale – Katniss – Peeta love triangle. J  All I know is that it takes focus, drive and determination to make through some of the fitness challenges I set for myself.  Yeah… I just tied Hunger Games into my fitness blog.  Don’t hate… appreciate… LOL!

I was pretty bummed that I couldn't run the McKinney Mini Half Marathon with my Road Runner buddies earlier this month.  I trained quite hard and was really looking forward to it.  However… life happens and I couldn’t run the race that morning.  I was able to attend a community service project that made me feel great.  God has the master plan and everything happens for a reason.

So since I was not able to run the race… I did have the focus, drive and determination to pledge to my buddies that would run a half marathon on my own. Who does that?  People that are "half crazy" and addicted to endorphins I guess.  LOL!  Anyway… I got my son taken care of and started my run.  I was feeling good.  The weather was nice.  My legs were strong.  My music was pumping.  The only problem was I got started later than I wanted too.  I was only able to get in 11 miles on my 13.1 commitment run.  It got dark way too quick... darn daylight savings time. LOL! Either way... I am glad I got out there and ran, but safety always comes first.

I think Katniss would have been proud.  With my focus, drive and determination I truly think I could out run 4 maybe even 5 of those HG tributes.  LOL!  Th-th-th-th – that’s all folks!

Until next time… Happy (run like a tribute) Running

Moving Music Mondays ~ Shake Senora... Pitbull, T-Pain & Sean Paul

The task ahead of you is never greater than the strength within you.
~ Unknown
Time to move blogosphere!
Today’s song is a running favorite of mine.  Imagine hitting a little bit of a wall.  Not the whole wall, but just a brick or two.  You just need a musical push to get yourself over the hump.  Well look no further... this song will do it.  The song is no other than… “Shake Senora”.  I remember coming up on mile 9 when this song came on during my 1st half marathon.  It was right on time!!!!

It is a great fun fitness song.  The fast beat keeps the old heart rate up.  My hubby even knows it is one my go to playlist songs.  We were in a boot camp class together and this song came on he was like…
“babe… it’s your song”!  LOL!
Whatever gets you there folks!

I have always loved Harry Belafonte’s “Jump In Line” song.  Don’t get me started on Bettlejuice (can you say classic)!!!  So it is with great pride that I tell you here and now… that I have officially shaken my “body line” to this little ditty in a Zumba class or two.  Pitbull, T-Pain and Sean Paul bring a little favor to this classic song.

Below is Zumba class getting down to my jam of the week.
Don't you just want to join in on the shaking fitness fun?  You know you do!

So I invite you to shake what your momma gave you and move that “body line”.
However, don’t shake it too hard… you don’t want to hurt anybody. Enjoy!
Until next time… Happy (Shake It Senora) Running!

Kids Are The Future

 Adults call it "working out."
Kids call it "playing."
~ My Kiddo... Trip ~

Ok… it’s been a minute since my last post, but you know how life goes.  Today’s post is all about my son Trip.  I am dedicating this post to him because my little man recently celebrated his 5th birthday.  My son is surrounded by love and God’s blessings, but you know what… this little dude is STILL 5 and he has a “Y” chromosome!  He needs to release all of that pent up “little boy energy” before it starts oozing out of his ears like a spigot.

Get your exercise where you can get it! LOL!

Running with his dog ~ Texas Bluebonnets

Trip getting his first racing bib. He is so sweet!

Sometimes Trip sees me putting on my “running clothes” and he will come up to me and ask… “are you running a race today?”  I love that.  I know it’s simple, but it’s the idea that he knows mommy is about to be “active”.  I may just be running in the neighborhood, but he knows that I am about to get off my backside and move my feet.  He also understands that it makes mommy happy to do it.  This will stay with him forever.  Being active is a positive thing.
Can you spot the 4 year old at the finish line?
I think he is eating candy... LOL!
I personally was a very active child and I was involved in a lot of sports.  Looking back on it now… staying active kept me grounded, team sports gave me perspective, and winning was just plain old fun!!!  I think we, as parents, need to do our part to keep our kiddos fit and healthy.  I remember back in the day I played outside ALL DAY.  Doing everything from climbing trees, to riding bikes, to roller skating in the street, to catching bugs.  You name it… we did it and we likely did it outside.  Today’s kids stay inside too much if you ask me.  I know, I know… the world has changed a lot and the idea of my son going “down the street” to play is down right scary.  However, I go out of my way to keep my son active in several different “safe” ways.

Having fun after a race
Trip loves to run!  He is so happy when he is out there… just running. This boy has “Future Athlete” written all over him.  It was really hard on him during the winter months when I was training for my 1st half marathon.  He wanted to run with me so bad, but I could not risk him getting sick.  So I would say… you can run with me after the Easter bunny comes. When Easter came I didn’t know if he was more excited about his Easter basket or the idea that he could run outside with mommy.  It was so cute.

Getting in his swimming lessons

Since then... he has run in several Fun Runs, a virtual run and he even ran his 1st full 5K last month.  He also took swimming classes all summer long.  I think that every child (AND ADULT) should learn how to swim. Trip and I take swimming lessons at the same place.  AquaFit Plano (www.aquafitplano.com)… they are great with kids and adults.  Below are more pics of some of the fun activities Trip has participated in this year.

After winning a running medal with mommy
This is Trip after he help me run a virtual half marathon.  I actually completed the 13.1 miles by running around my neighborhood.  Trip ran about a mile with me after I was done, but you can’t tell him nothing!  He had a lot of fun that day.

This is me and the Tripster during our Run Like Mother Fun Run.  A run we did together for Mother’s Day.  Trip was so happy when he got his little ribbon.  He said… “I won mommy, I won!”

Family fun at the Melon Dash Fun Run.  Trip actually ran out of his shoe during race... literally.  He just kept running.  Leaving the poor shoe behind. I think the shoe was holding him back. LOL!

Batman & Mrs. Robin - Haunt Jaunt 5K
Trip's 1st 5K race!!!

Trip... running his 1st 5K race

… and this Fall my little boy ran his first full out 5K race (the Haunt Jaunt in Plano).  This was a pre-Halloween race so everyone dressed up in costumes.  The Trip-a-tron and I dressed up as the Caped Crusader Batman and his trusty sidekick… Mrs. Robin.  This kid was actually doing push-ups when were lined up before the race started… WHAT!?!?  It was also a night race and there were fun Halloween scenes throughout the race.  He ran some… then walked.  He always wanted me to hold his hand when he walked so I didn’t past him… LOL!  He made sure I took a picture of him while he was running so Daddy could see him running.  He also wanted to make sure he took a “muscle picture” after the race… like his mommy does.  We had an absolute blast!
His "Muscle Picture" after his 1st 5K race
So blogosphere… if you have little ones in your life… I challenge you to keep them active and healthy.  Find out what they want to do and sign them up for it.
Hey… while you’re doing that… why don’t you sign yourself up for something too!

How your kiddo should look after a long day of playing... LOL!
Yes... that's a Batman mask painted on his face.

Until next time… Happy (do it for the kids) Running!
