Now That's A Workout…

Tomorrow might be just another day to run...
~ Bill Withers
Maybe next year... Sniff, Sniff
Yep... that sums it up!!
Where do I begin blogosphere? For those that have not figured it out...Texas has been covered in a sheet of ice for the last 4 days. Now this “Arctic Blast”, as they were calling it, was extra bad because it was 79 degrees on Wednesday and by Thursday, after raining all day, it was below freezing. Over 240,000 people and businesses lost their power on Friday.
As my 5y/o son said… Elsa, from the movie “Frozen”, was sooo busy! LOL!!
Seriously...
it was colder in Texas than it was in Alaska

Now to the serious stuff. My Road Runners friends and I were supposed to run the 5 person marathon relay in the Metro PCS Marathon today, but it was cancelled due to the weather.   We had 2 teams and everything... Team Beep and Team Beep Beep... LOL... we don't get out much!!  Anyway... the race cancellation was a big deal people. This race is a Boston Marathon qualifier, it has been run in Dallas for over 40 years and it is a BIG time money maker for the racing community. Cancelling this race was a major call, but safety always comes first. It was just too dangerous for the racers out there.

The race registration fee went to the Scottish Rite Hospital which is a worthy cause. They plan on sending out our race shirts via the mail. Also if a 2013 registrant completes the 2014 MetroPCS race then they will provide the runner with two medals– the medal they would have received for finishing the 2013 race and the 2014 finisher medal. So it’s not that bad. Here’s to 2014!!

Well… now you have all of Texas, including me, slowing dying of Cabin Fever. What to do? What to Do? Enter one of my girlfriends! I get a text from my friend yesterday asking if anyone was interested in doing a workout with her on Sunday. I jumped at the chance to:
1) leave my house
2) get my workout on
3) make a deposit in my depleting endorphin bank account
I layered up and started my slow hike to the fitness center. I patiently waited for the crew to arrive. I am thinking... we are going to get in some workouts on our own, run a bit and drum up a little bit of sweat… then call it a day. Low and behold I see my friend jump out of her truck with our other friend and her hubby.  WAIT... WHAT???? HER HUBBY!?!?!
My confused knees buckled a little bit.

Let me tell you something… this chick’s better half is a personal trainer and a Camp Gladiator (yeah you heard me... GLADIATOR) Boot Camp trainer…
and his clients GET RESULTS!!
I am like… OMG… I AM GOING DIE TODAY!!!
LOL!! This little “get together workout” is going to turn into a “feel it burn, I forgot I had quads, I am never speaking to my friend again workout.”

I'm so fast... the camera can't catch me!!
Getting schooled on the 4 circuit rotations... LOL!

Kettleball lunges baby!!
WANT SOME... GET SOME!!
Her hubby proceeded to beat the endorphins out of us. I am not kidding I saw one of my sweet little endorphins sitting by the water cooler ringing a salvation army bell looking for holiday handouts! What really threw me for a loop is that I was use to a 3 circuit rotation type of boot camp.  You know... do 3 rotations through all of the stations... then move to the next circuit of exercises. Oh no… this dude had us doing circuits of 4. This was playing tricks with my mind. My form was all over the place and my quads (along with the rest of my body) were on FI-YAH!!! To say I was sweating “like a pig” would be a understatement. LOL!

Can you see my endorphins
crying in the back... LOL!
Yep... I am dying

Needless to say… it was a GREAT WORKOUT!  I was so zoned out at the end… I messed around and left my cell phone in the fitness center.  He put the hurting on us, but it was great!  I would do it again in a heartbeat!  It was the best free workout I have ever had!! LOL!  So with that… I have to say thank you to my friend for the workout invite and for thinking of little old me.
Here’s to more workouts in the future!
The ladies showed up and showed out!!
Well done ladies... well done!!
Until next time… Happy (Friend Inspired) Running!

Feeling Great…

What matters is not necessarily the size of the dog in the fight -
it's the size of the fight in the dog."

My anniversary flowers
What’s up blogosphere?  How is it going?  I’m doing GGGGGRRRRREEAATT (said in my best Tony the Tiger voice)!  I had a fabulous holiday weekend. My husband’s family was in town and I absolutely adore them.  I set a PR in my Thanksgiving Turkey Trot and I wasn’t really ready for it.  By that I mean I went out for dinner with the family on Wednesday and proceeded to eat my weight in pork ribs.  I didn’t mean too.  It just kind of happened.  That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.  LOL!  Needless to say… I normally do not eat like that before a race, but I did and still managed to sneak in a PR.  Not bad I say... not bad.

After trotting in the cold with my friends… I was able to warm up with the family as we watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade.  I loved watching the parade as a kid.  I still get a little giddy when I see Santa’s sleigh at the end. Don’t Judge Me… LOL.  There was more family bonding as we took on the Brown Thursday shopping deals.  My hubby orchestrated a fool proof Brown Thursday plan of attack and we all had our assignments.  I personally think my running endurance really came in handy during my 4hr wait in the cold.  Just saying.  Then on Friday my hubby and I celebrated 10 years of marriage.  That’s nothing to shake a stick at.  We serve an awesome God.
Saturday brought more family time.  I can never get enough of my family.  It’s wonderful to get together for good times.  Then I watched my beloved Grambling Tigers lose in the Bayou Classic, but I am happy the boys hung in there. They even tried to do a little something, something in the 3rd quarter.  I was also able to see my girl Katniss Everdeen in her full Catching Fire glory last night.  I definitely have to work on my swimming ability.  Did you happen to catch that crazy water scene when the Hunger Games began?

As this holiday weekend comes to an end… I am mentally preparing for my next fitness challenge.  My Road Runner friends and I are participating in the Metro PCS Marathon relay on 12/8.  We are each going to run 4 – 6 miles along the 26.2 mile course.  This should be fun.  I am really looking forward to it.  After that… 2014 rolls around and with it the hope of adding a full marathon to my “completed races” column.
We will see.

If I decide to run a marathon… will you do it with me??? J
Should I hold my breath for your answer?  LOL!

Until next time… Happy (refocused) Running!
